Auburn Elvis is super-flyI love Auburn!

When you’re born in Alabama, you’re faced with one choice that will determine the course of your life: Auburn or Alabama? I chose Auburn, and my life has been nearly perfect ever since.

When I was young, my family had a tradition of going to the SEC Men’s Basketball tournament every year. It was so cool getting to miss two days of school to go to some strange new city (although in hind-sight, that city was usually just Birmingham) and watch Auburn (and 9 other schools) play four days of basketball. It was a really nice spring vacation for a kid from the Montgomery public school system (which didn’t let out for Spring Break). Now that I’m and married adult, I decided this was tradition that I wanted to have with my own family.

I love TV!

I love watching it, I love thinking about it, and I especially love being on it. Now, just going to the tournament and watching Auburn play (usually, for just one or to games) isn’t enough. I really wanted to get on television and show my support for the Tigers. So, I devised an idea to sew (yeah, I learned to sew at an early age) a funky-cool 70’s style Auburn jumpsuit and grow my hair out into an afro. Surely this would get me onto TV?

Well, it did, but a strange thing happened as well. A lot (and I mean A-LOT) of people kept referring to me as “Auburn Elvis”. Even though my hair looked NOTHING LIKE an Elvis pompadour, people saw teh jumpsuit and immediately made the connection. In fairness, “Auburn Elvis” is probably easier to say than “Auburn 70’s Afro Disco Guy”. So, I decided that in future years, I’d wear an Elvis wig and just go with the Auburn Elvis thing outright.
