Recently one of Sports Illustrated’s reporters posted his lastest college football spring power rankings. He has Auburn ranked 16th, but believe-it-or not, I actually don’t object to that. My biggest gripe is how he placed 3 Big (l)East teams in the top 12. FYI, that’s more than the SEC has. I had to email him about this:

How long will West Virginia (and the rest of the conference) continue to get mileage from that shellacking (3 whole points, WOW!) over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl two seasons ago? You really think the Big East contains a quarter of the top 12 power teams in the country… REALLY?… REALLY?

He responded almost immediately (after 5 on a Friday no less):

Was the last part an SNL reference? If so, love it.

Here’s my response to his response:

Yes, it was. And incidentally, how about Kristin Wiig of SNL for Mailbag Crush? I think she’s attractive and she’s obviously good at what she does (she’s in, like EVERY skit nowadays).

P.S. Would my chances of getting my email published have increased if I had accused you of attending West Virginia? You obvious tool.

Anyway, I really do respect how well you handle the amount of crap that gets thrown at you by your “fans”. Keep it up.

It’s my opinion that if West Virginia hadn’t beaten Georgia in that Sugar Bowl, West Virginia, Louisville, and Rutgers would all be ranked 3 to 5 spots lower in everyone’s preseason rankings.

Oh yeah, I emailed him from my non-Auburn Elvis identity, so he probably didn’t realize he was emailing a minor celebrity.
