In his weekly column, “The Race For The BCS … Teams In The Hunt“, Richard Cirminiello had the following to say about Auburn:
It doesn’t happen very often, but you bet Tiger fans will be rooting for Alabama to knock off LSU this weekend. A Tide win over the Tigers on Saturday raises the possibility that the Nov. 24 Iron Bowl will decide the champion of the SEC West.
I couldn’t help myself. I had to respond with the following email:
HERETIC! HERETIC! How dare you suggest Auburn would pull for Alabama? You obviously don’t know much about this rivalry. Auburn would rather sit at home and watch LSU in Atlanta than pull for the Tide. If Auburn can’t win the West on our own (without help from Bama), then we don’t deserve it.
When will sportswritters learn that college football fans (at least, those of us in the SEC) have a list of priorities, the ABSOLUTE, HIGHEST OF WHICH IS TO ALWAY ROOT AGAINST ONE’S RIVAL?

“USC is Florida st. of the 2000’s..underachiever or talented?”
You forgot the third, and true option…USC is the victim of East coast media bias…everyone in the USA knew last year USC or Utah was
the best team..yet..we get ANOTHER clunker of a BCS game of overrated SEC #1 oops..Florida..vs. Chokelahoma..AGAIN.. AGAIN AGAIN
j**** f***** c***** ..everyone in the USA starting with senator orrin hatch and going down to me joe fan is so sick of this garbage!! ENOUGH with overrated SEC team vs. chokelahoma!! you “expert” sportswriters keep giving us this s*** on a shingle and we are sick of it! USC, Utah, Oregon, and probably 3 other teams including Texas could of killed Florida and Oklahoma..stop messing with USC they are the best team in the country give them the title they deserve you pin head
Barry Switzer after Utah beat Alabama “I don’t care alabama is better and that is how I am going to vote”
Why do you moronic “experts” keep giving the title which belongs to USC To some overrated SEC team?
YOU ARE RUINING THE BEST SPORT IN THE WORLD STOP IT
Hmmm… Well, you’re a bit off-topic but I think you bring up some valid points - namely that the current system is prone to bias and that only on-field performance could truly dictate who’s better. As for the East-coast bias, remember I’m an Auburn fan, and it wasn’t too long ago that we got shafted by Left-coast bias towards Southern Cal.
