Best quote during ESPN’s BCS pre-selection show:
“We’re going to end up with two teams that have a shorter winning streak than Notre Dame”

-Brad Edwards, ESPN BCS “Expert”

Rose Bowl: USC vs. Illinois

No surprise. The Rose Bowl would invite Al-Qaeda before they’d pass up an at-large Big Ten or Pac-10 team.

Fiesta Bowl: West Virgina vs. Oklahoma
Alright, Oklahoma won’t be in the BCS Championship game. Not a big shock, but there was a lot of disturbing, “Oklahoma played better than everyone else” talk last night/ this morning.

8:19

Orange Bowl: Kansas vs. Virginia Tech.

Hmmm. Missouri gets snubbed by a team they beat 2 weeks ago. Also, both of the Tigers losses came to Oklahoma - the 3rd team in the land. Tragic.

BCS Championship Game: LSU vs. Ohio State

Obviously, Ohio State will be fired up to erase the memory of last year’s debacle. Thing is, it probably won’t matter.

Also, it’s a shame Georgia didn’t get here. LSU vs. Georgia is probably a better game.

And the final game to be announced (by ESPN, anyway):

8:23

Sugar Bowl: Georgia vs. Hawaii

Well, here’s hoping that Georgia doesn’t play like they did in the 2006 Sugar Bowl.

ESPN finally gets around to discussing the Sugar Bowl. Mark Richt is a CLASS ACT! All future snubbed coaches should use his interview as a template for how to graciously accept things beyond one’s control. He even had a good answer for the whole: should Bo Pelini stick with LSU for the bowl game like Richt did with FSU? (FSU got their butts kicked by Oklahoma as Richt tried to serve two masters, just being named the new Georgia coach.)

Interesting Observation:

When asked about any special motivational tricks he might have up his sleeve for the Sugar Bowl, Richt said, “we’re gonna black-out the dome.” - signalling that he intends to wear the all-black jerseys. However, I think Hawaii will be the home team (I need to double-check that, but the web sites I’ve seen list the game as “Georgia vs. Hawaii”, which seems to mean Hawaii is the home team). In college football, the home team doesn’t automatically wear white, they get the first option (see: LSU). This means that if Hawaii wants to kinda “stick it” to Georgia, they could opt to wear their black jerseys and force Georgia to wear white. Oh the drama.

*UPDATE:

OK… well, all the sites that I looked at have now changed their listings of the Sugar Bowl to “Hawaii vs. Georgia” instead of “Georgia vs. Hawaii” indicating that Georgia is probably the home team and would therefore have the first option of jersey colors.
